Detox juices such as juices made with vegetables or spices and herbs provide useful nutrients such as hydration with fluids, vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients. The detox juice benefits and mixes made using these juices is that they can give many health advantages if prescribed and consumed wisely.

Detox disadvantages

Detox juices should be consumed and planned under supervision from a qualified nutritionist and dietician only. It is not advisable to consume any detox on your own as it could be more detrimental than useful. For example, if a detox juice is made using fenugreek seeds, and consumed by a diabetic just before going for a walk it is foolish to do so. Fenugreek seeds are known to lower and control blood sugar levels. Brisk walk is an exercise which will lower blood glucose levels, hence consuming fenugreek seeds or methi seeds just before the walk is not advisable. Hence, the timing for consuming any detox juice or detox mix should be only after consultation with your qualified dietician. (Please check the credentials to confirm that he/she is a qualified nutritionist)

The process of making detox juice removes roughage or fibre and reduces a significant percent of most of the natural nutrients in the food product due to oxidation and heat exposure.

How to make Detox juices?

Most often mixers or mixies are used for juicing fruits and vegetables.  It is not advisable to use them to make juices as the heat generated leads to loss of nutrients. This is why, cold-pressed juices are mostly preferred over using a mixie. The nutrient loss in a cold press is to a much lesser extent than those made in the mixie. Choose the right dietitian or nutritionist to help you choose the right detoxes and foods based on your health needs.
