What is CRAP food?

CRAP foods are unhealthy foods

CRAP food means unhealthy food. C-R-A-P stands for Carbonated junk foods, Refined Sugars, Artificial Shit and Processed foods. Such foods generate free radicals, increase inflammation and eventually lead to adverse health effects. Let us explore what it means as we read further.

Your DIET determines your overall health. This means the food that you choose – healthy and unhealthy food eaten long-term affects your health, disease and longevity. Hence, choose your foods wisely.

Why do we eat unhealthy food?

CRAP foods are enticing to many people; particularly young impressionable minds of children due to increasing exposure to Television and newspaper advertisements, leaflets and handouts heavily marketing their products with false health messages of “tandurusti” showing images of happy children with strong bones and so on. Peer pressure of seeing their friends eating those foods increases the desire to eat the same foods. This is a well-known fact. Such unhealthy foods are convenient and easily available outside, sweet or buttery and appealing to the taste needs of most people. Oftentimes, unhealthy CRAP foods are cheaply and easily available. For e.g. Chips, cold drinks and sugary or salty snacks

Where does unhealthy food come from?

junk foods

C-R-A-P foods are mostly sweet to taste, many times namkeen or salty, likely to have artificial food colors,  high in fats and trans fats. Although these are designed to look attractive or taste good, they are unhealthy foods because they are high in sugar, fat/oil, salt, artificial flavorings and colorings or all of these.

Health Effects of CRAP foods

Such foods are calorie-rich, but not nutrient-rich. They are unhealthy foods which will add unnecessary calories, without giving nutrients which are needed for good health and necessary for growth and development. Processing of food robs the food of nutrients and generate free radicals which are harmful to health, promote disease and ill effects on health when consumed long-term.
